KiteTasks — native macOS desktop app for Google Tasks

What is KiteTasks?

KiteTasks is a native Google Tasks app for macOS that brings your tasks to the desktop without relying on a browser tab. Google has never shipped an official Google Tasks desktop app, so KiteTasks fills that gap with features the web version lacks: a global Quick Capture shortcut, full-text search, a dedicated Today view, an Upcoming view with your Google Calendar events, and more. It syncs directly with Google's servers through OAuth 2.0, with no third-party data storage. Available on the Mac App Store as a one-time purchase.

Everything you need, nothing you don't

The features that make KiteTasks the Google Tasks app you've been waiting for.

Quick Capture & natural language

Hit your system-wide shortcut from any application and a capture window appears instantly — no switching, no clicking. Then just type the way you think: "Call Mom tomorrow", "Submit report next Friday", "Pay rent on the 1st". KiteTasks parses the date, time, and title automatically, so you never touch a date picker. Enter to save, and you're back in whatever you were doing in under three seconds.

Today View

Today View

Start your day with clarity. The Today View pulls together every task due today across all your Google Tasks lists into a single, focused screen. No digging through multiple lists or wondering what you missed. Just open KiteTasks, glance at your Today View, and know exactly what needs your attention.

Upcoming view & calendar

Upcoming view & calendar

Planning ahead shouldn't mean switching between apps. The Upcoming view lays out every scheduled task for the days ahead and overlays your Google Calendar events right next to them — so meetings, deadlines, and to-dos all live on the same timeline. Spot conflicts before they happen, block real time for the work that matters, and walk into tomorrow knowing exactly what's coming.

Board viewList view

Your layout, your way

Not everyone thinks in lists. KiteTasks lets you switch between list view for detailed planning, board view for visual workflows, and compact view for quick scanning. Each view syncs with the same data, so switch freely depending on the task at hand. Your layout, your rules.

And more

Better Subtasks

Nest subtasks with real hierarchy. Break big tasks into smaller steps without losing context.

Multi-Account

Work and personal Google accounts, side by side. Switch instantly without logging in and out.

Private by design

Your tasks stay on your Mac and in your Google account. The app has zero telemetry — no usage tracking, no phone-home, no third-party servers.

One price. Yours forever.

Hey there 👋

I'm Arturo, the developer behind KiteTasks.

Google Tasks is a fantastic product. It's free, it's everywhere, and the deep integration with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Gemini makes it hard to leave. I use it every day to manage both my personal life and my work.

But let's be honest: Google hasn't given the UI much love. Compared to apps like Todoist or TickTick, the experience feels a little forgotten. No desktop app, no search, no keyboard shortcuts, no Today view. Just a small sidebar tucked inside Gmail.

I kept thinking: what if Google Tasks had a proper Mac app with a clean interface and the features it deserves? So I built one.

KiteTasks is the app I wanted to exist. It keeps everything I love about Google Tasks (the sync, the simplicity, the Google ecosystem) and wraps it in a native Mac experience that actually feels good to use. No Electron, no web view. Just a real app for the task manager I was already using every day.

If you feel the same way about Google Tasks, I think you'll like what I built.

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no official Google Tasks Mac app from Google. KiteTasks is a native Google Tasks Mac app built specifically to fill that gap. It syncs directly with your Google Tasks account and provides desktop features that Google's web interface lacks, including full-text search across all lists, a dedicated Today view, natural language task input, and system-wide keyboard shortcuts. It requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

To get Google Tasks on desktop, download KiteTasks from the Mac App Store for a one-time purchase of $9.99. KiteTasks is the Google Tasks desktop app for macOS. After installing, sign in with your Google account using secure OAuth 2.0 authentication, and all your existing tasks sync automatically. It runs as a standalone native Mac app — no browser tab required — with features like Quick Capture, search, and the Today view that aren't available in Google's web interface.

No. KiteTasks is a one-time purchase of $9.99 on the Mac App Store with no recurring fees or subscription required. The purchase includes all current features and all future updates at no additional cost. There are no premium tiers, no in-app purchases, and no feature gating. You pay once and own it forever.

Yes. The KiteTasks app connects directly to Google's servers using OAuth 2.0, the same secure authentication method used by Google's own apps. Your tasks are stored only on your Mac and in your Google account — they are never routed through or stored on third-party servers. The app itself ships with zero telemetry: no usage tracking, no crash analytics, no phone-home. It does not collect any personal data beyond what is needed to sync with Google Tasks. (The kitetasks.com marketing website is a separate surface and uses basic, anonymised web analytics — fully disclosed in our Privacy Policy.)

Yes. KiteTasks supports adding multiple Google accounts and switching between them instantly with a single click. Each account maintains its own task lists, Today view, and settings. This is useful for keeping work and personal tasks separate without needing to log in and out or manage multiple browser profiles, which is required when using Google Tasks through the web.

Yes, and they come directly from the Google Tasks API — not from KiteTasks itself. The Google Tasks API does not expose recurring tasks or specific times of day, only dates. That means KiteTasks cannot set a task to repeat automatically or schedule it for, say, 3:00 PM. These limitations apply to every third-party Google Tasks client, and they are outside our control. The good news: KiteTasks is built to take advantage of new API capabilities the moment Google ships them, so as soon as recurring tasks and time-of-day support are added to the Google Tasks API, they will be integrated into KiteTasks right away.

Yes. Google Tasks does not include any search functionality — once a task scrolls out of view, the only way to find it is manual scrolling. The KiteTasks Google Tasks Mac app solves this with full-text search across every task list in your account. Type a few characters and matching tasks appear instantly, regardless of which list they belong to or when they were created.
